99 journalists lost their lives in 2023, 77 became victims of Israel-Hamas war

Journalists all over the world have to face a lot of problems while doing their work. Journalists face more problems, especially in such places where the conditions are not good. In these circumstances, many times journalists are ill-treated and even tortured. Not only this, many journalists even have to pay the price of their work with their lives. These include not only male journalists but also female journalists. Last year too, many journalists lost their lives while doing their work and the figures have now come to light.
According to the committee formed to protect journalists, 99 journalists lost their lives in 2023. Along with men, women were also included among the killed journalists.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza accounted for the majority of the deaths of journalists in 2023. 77 journalists who were covering the conflict died as a result of attacks in Gaza and the neighbouring areas.
The past two years have seen a sharp rise in the global death toll from journalism. 47 journalists lost their lives while working in 2021, compared to 67 journalists who died while doing their jobs worldwide in 2022.
Several journalists had to serve jail time last year while carrying out their duties.
