New Delhi – Former Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, who had resigned unexpectedly on the night of July 21, 2025, resurfaced today after 53 days of complete public absence. His appearance at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Vice President, Radha Krishan, has reignited the debate surrounding his sudden resignation.
Dhankhar had submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, citing health reasons. However, the abrupt move shocked the political corridors, especially since he was actively participating in parliamentary proceedings and performing his duties as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha just days earlier.
The lack of details in his resignation letter fueled speculation. Opposition parties were quick to question the circumstances. Leaders accused the government of withholding the truth and demanded transparency.
Among the first to raise doubts was Hanuman Beniwal, chief of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he posted:
“The Vice President’s sudden resignation and subsequent disappearance raise serious questions. Is the government hiding something? Are health reasons just a cover-up?”
Beniwal even threatened to escalate the issue in Parliament, calling it a matter that “strikes at the very heart of democracy.”
For over seven weeks, Dhankhar remained away from public view, neither addressing the media nor participating in political events. His sudden reappearance at today’s oath ceremony has brought fresh attention to the controversy, with many wondering whether his silence was indeed health-related or tied to undisclosed political developments.
While the government has maintained its stance of “health concerns,” opposition parties are unlikely to let the matter settle easily. Political analysts believe the issue could spark a larger debate over transparency and accountability in high constitutional offices.
