Jannik Sinner has regained the ATP year-end No.1 ranking after his semi-final win at the Shanghai Masters while turning out to be the first Italian to pull off this feat.

Sinner has not fallen out of the position since he became the world No.1 ranking in singles - for the first time since the computerized rankings began - back in 1973 and he will stay there at least until the close of the season.

At 23, he is only the 19th player to be Year-End World No.1 and the fourth active player to achieve the feat along with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner won the Australian Open at the beginning of his season and has never looked back. He has set his eyes on receiving the prestigious award after fighting with Alcaraz throughout the season for the year-end No.1 honor.

He has collected six ATP Tour titles thus far, including his maiden major victories at the Australian Open and US Open. He will try to capture a seventh trophy in 2024 on Sunday in the Shanghai Masters final.

In Melbourne and New York, he became only the third man in the Open Era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in one season. Sinner was the first to do so since Guillermo Vilas in 1977.

Sinner won his first 16 matches of the year. He is 64-6 this season. The 23-year-old has matched career-best from last year, where he recorded the most wins by a male player from his country in a season in the Open Era.

The San Candido native started the year with an ATP Masters 1000 title and supplemented that with a couple more as he took home trophies in Miami and Cincinnati. Events on the ATP 500 courts of Rotterdam and Halle also fell to him. With his victory at the US Open, Sinner became only the fourth player to have won both the Australian Open and the US Open on hard court in the same season. The other three are Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Mats Wilander. Already, Jannik Sinner spent 17 weeks at world No. 1. "It's amazing. It's something you dream of as a kid, when you're young, just to be No. 1. Now to end the year, it's another different and special feeling as well. Obviously, it means a lot to me. It's something I couldn't have achieved without my family and friends and a huge credit to my team as well," Sinner said.
