OpenAI claims: ChatGPT is being used to influence the US elections

While Artificial Intelligence, in recent years, has not only revolutionized technology but has also presented new challenges concerning cybersecurity and electoral integrity. Recently, a big claim was made by OpenAI, sounding an alert. According to OpenAI, with the help of AI tools especially ChatGPT, cybercriminals tried to influence US elections. This claim by OpenAI has raised a big and serious issue concerning the misuse of AI.

As it has been reported, cybercriminals use the ChatGPT service for creating fake and misleading content. Such fake news, exploited social media posts, and even election campaign content help confuse the voters.

That report, released Wednesday, concluded that its AI models were used to create fake content-long-form articles and social media messages-as part of campaigns to influence election campaigns. The new AI messages, or machine-generated content, can mimic the structure and style of real news sources, which makes it very difficult for average citizens to know any different between fact from fiction.

The most insensitive thing is that cybercriminals can use techniques like data mining to analyze voters' behaviour and preference to build messages that will attract them. OpenAI has foiled over 20 attempts this year to misuse ChatGPT. In August, the company blocked accounts creating election-related articles. Apart from this, in July, some accounts from Rwanda were banned for making social media comments influencing the elections in that country.

The Department of Homeland Security has also been concerned because Russia, Iran, and China had been attempting to influence the November elections using AI-driven content and misinformation. These countries have been accused of using AI in the circumstances to spread fake or divisive information, posing a grave danger to the election.
