Argentina successfully defended its Copa America trophy with a 1-0 win over Colombia in the final of the tournament at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. With this, Argentina succeeded in capturing this title 16 times and this is its fourth consecutive win. During the match, Argentina captain Lionel Messi had to leave the match in the second half due to an ankle injury. The pain and the final match were so connected that Messi had tears in his eyes when he was leaving the field.

For the stipulated 90 minutes, both the teams could not score a single goal. After this, the match remained goalless even in stoppage time, but Martinez, who came in as a substitute player, scored a goal in extra time to give the team the lead which remained till the end. This was Martinez's fifth goal of the tournament and he remains the frontrunner for the Golden Boot.

This was Argentina's third consecutive major tournament trophy (2021 Copa America, 2022 FIFA World Cup), making it the first South American team to achieve this feat. This was a special win for Argentina, as the team's legend Angel Di Maria has now officially retired from international football and it was a memorable farewell for him.

An emotional Di Maria said after the match that I had dreamed of this, I had seen that I would retire like this. I have so many beautiful memories. I will always be grateful to this generation, which made me achieve what I wanted so much.
