Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal's poor form continued in the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament too, where he had to face defeat in straight sets on Wednesday in the first round. This 27-year-old Indian player couldn't pose much of a challenge to China's Wu Yibing and his campaign ended in the first round itself after losing 6-3, 6-3.

Nagal had lost to Netherlands's Tallon Griekspoor in the first round of men's singles in the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, in August this year. He was playing a tournament for the first time since the US Open. Nagal had missed the Davis Cup game, recently, against Sweden, over which he also had a tussle with the All India Tennis Association. Nagal has been nursing this back injury for some time now.

Nagal, who pulled out of the Davis Cup tie against Sweden citing a back strain, which also forced him to pull out of the US Open men's doubles event last month. This was Nagal's first tournament on the ATP Tour after falling in the first round of the US Open.
