ICC women's T20 world 2024: Australia defeated New Zealand by a big margin, now how will India reach the semi-finals

Australia has won with a big margin of 60 runs against New Zealand. With the win of Australia, there is a huge upset in the points table of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Now, Australia has reached the top position while Pakistan holds at number two, whereas New Zealand directly comes from top to third number while India is on the fourth position. With this, now the path to reach the semi-finals seems very difficult for India. Today on Wednesday, India will face Sri Lanka. If Team India wants to reach the semi-finals, what will it have to do? After the comprehensive win against New Zealand in Group-A of the points table, Australia has reached the top with two wins and four points in two matches, while Pakistan is at second position with one win and two points in two matches. Whereas, New Zealand's team reached the third position with one win and two points in two matches due to low net run rate. India is at the fourth position in the points table with one win, two points in two matches due to very poor net run rate.

The Indian women's cricket team will play against the Sri Lanka national team in a do or die match of the World Cup on Wednesday today. India was included in Group A that has so far played two matches out of which it has won one while lost one. The defeat to Sri Lanka, and that too by a big margin, is very much required for the Indian team to stay in the race for the semi-finals. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan team has played two matches in this World Cup and emerged as a loser in both the matches.

Now, if the Indian team has to stay in the race for the semi-finals, then it would have to achieve a big win against Sri Lanka at any cost. Now even a single defeat from here will completely end the chances of the Indian team moving forward. The Indians have played only one T20 match against the Lankans this calendar year - in the final of the Asia Cup in July - and lost by eight wickets.
