India can be out of WTC Final even after winning the upcoming series against New Zealand, understand the complete math

All knew that the Test series in Bangladesh would be a facile victory for Team India. But little did anybody think the manner in which Team India went about the game and won it despite almost half of the Kanpur Test being washed out by rains. While coupled with the fact that the Test series win against Bangladesh 2-0, India has further strengthened its claim for the World Test Championship final, but do you know that India can be out of the World Test Championship final even after winning the upcoming New Zealand series? This has been the trend for the Indian cricket team, which is rapidly working its way for the third consecutive time towards the final of the Test Championships. In all, under the World Test Championship 2023-25, 8 matches in two series are to be played by the Indian team. First of all, India will be playing a three-Test series on its own soil against New Zealand. Next, it will play a 5-Test series under its hosting with Australia. Whereas there are two Tests against New Zealand this month, the third and last Test of the series is next month. After this, Team India will start the Border Gavaskar Trophy, on the tour of Australia in the last week of the following month.

Talking about the points table of the World Test Championship, the Indian team is at number one with a 74.24 win percentage after wins in 8 out of 11 matches. At the same time, Australia stands at number two with 62.50 win percentage after wins in 8 out of 12 matches, while Sri Lanka stands at third place with 55.56 win percentage after wins in 5 out of 9 matches.

Team India will now need to win only 4 of their remaining 8 Tests to make it to the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25. If Team India beats New Zealand 3-0 in the Test series which is going to start soon, then its place in the WTC final will be as good as confirmed. However, Team India will officially reach the final by winning one Test against Australia.

Even after winning the series against New Zealand, Team India can be out of the race for the WTC final. This can be possible when India wins the series against New Zealand 1-0 or 2-1, because last time India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1. If this happens again, then Team India will have to depend on the result of the Sri Lanka vs South Africa series. While on the other hand, in case of Australia defeating India and India losing the series against New Zealand, under such a situation then Sri Lanka will beat South Africa and will enter into the finals.
