Attention drivers of Delhi, temporary ban has been imposed on these vehicles

Air pollution is increasing once again in Delhi NCR. For this reason, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has issued a new order. In which BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel four-wheelers have been banned. The air quality index (AQI) of Delhi NCR falls in the 'severe' category. Which means AQI between 401 to 450. At present, no time limit has been set to lift this ban.

The sub-committee observed that Delhi's AQI increased rapidly on December 22. It was 409 and the Committee says it is expected to increase by another 8 points due to extremely adverse weather and climate conditions reported or anticipated by IMD/IITM.

AQI classifies scores from 0 to 500. A score between 0 and 50 is "good", 51 to 100 is "satisfactory", 101 to 200 is "moderate", 201 to 300 is "poor", 301 to 400 is "very poor" and 401 to Up to 500 is considered “severe”.

Apart from the ban on vehicles, GRAP has also ordered strict restrictions on construction and demolition activities in the entire NCR region. However, some activities are exempted. Such as railway services, airports, inter-state bus terminals, hospital/health care and metro projects. Projects and activities related to national security, sanitation, public projects like highways, roads, flyovers etc. also come under the exemption.

The Delhi government had earlier planned to implement the odd-even rule if the air quality is bad after Diwali. However, the plan was shelved after the Supreme Court termed the move as a mere sham that would not have much impact on pollution levels.
