Ford has issued a recall for 85,000 Explorer Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. The recall applies to the models manufactured from 2020 through 2022. The recalling of all these vehicles is being done because of the probability of early damage to the engine due to which it catches fire. Let us know what kind of defect occurs in the engine.

NHTSA has reported that it has notified Ford of a safety recall. According to them, engine fuel can leak from the engine compartment in substantial amounts and pool in the vicinity of ignition sources. This will result in localized melting or smoke in addition to fire under the hood.

According to the issuing agency, there have been 13 reports of an engine block crack that has caused a fire under the hood on Explorer PIU vehicles equipped with 3.3L engines built in North America before June 2, 2022. Meanwhile, there are no similar reports of an engine block cracking on non-police vehicles, which would have resulted in a fire. It also said that no injuries have been reported in such incidents. The automaker will notify the owners of the involved vehicles with a letter advising that the investigation is still ongoing.

Ford Company has advised people that if people hear any unexpected sound from the engine, experience an unexpected decrease in torque, or see smoke emanating from the engine compartment, then park the engine safely as soon as possible and turn off the engine.
