Volkswagen's big preparation! Self driving car is going to launch, know the plan

After electric cars, now the era of self-driving cars is going to happen. Many big and new features have started coming in vehicles, in which ADAS is one example in front of all of us. For information, let us tell you that at this time some big car manufacturers are focusing on autonomous driving vehicles. The news is coming that German carmaker Volkswagen said on Thursday that it plans to launch autonomous or self-driving vehicles for ride-hailing and goods delivery service in Austin, Texas by 2026.

Volkswagen, which previously bet heavily on Ford's now-defunct self-driving car unit Argo, is now partnering with Mobileye in a strategic shift. This year, Volkswagen plans to test 10 iD Buzz electric vehicles retrofitted with Mobileye's autonomous driving platform with safety drivers in limited areas of Austin, including downtown. The company has taken about 100 people from Argo as well as from its center in Austin, where Argo had been testing autonomous vehicles.

Volkswagen said it plans to achieve economies of scale and will be able to leverage Mobileye's supply base and map data to lower costs. The company also said that fully autonomous vehicles will be brought to market as a commercial, scalable product.

"We are currently actively evaluating new opportunities for individual cities," said Katrin Lohmann, President, of Volkswagen ADMT. Companies have spent billions of dollars in developing that technology and this will increase road safety.
