Last year (2022), he was accused of shooting and killing his wife and a bystander at a southern Indiana gas station. Another third person was also injured during this attack. At the same time, the person guilty in this case has been sentenced to 240 years in jail on Wednesday.

A jury in August found Cherok Ameer Douglass of New Albany guilty of two counts of murder, one counts each of attempted murder and robbery.

Prosecutors said Douglas killed Brandy K. Douglas, 38, and Lorin M. Yeley, 43, of Louisville, Kentucky, in April 2022. The police chase him to a nearby restaurant where he takes the owner Vinnie Wayne hostage. She was injured after falling from his car.

On the other hand, investigators did not believe there was any connection between Yale and Cherokee or Brandy Douglas.

They said Yale was a customer at the gas station and was shot while walking to his vehicle.

Floyd Superior Court Judge Cary Stiller gave Douglas the maximum sentence, calling his crimes "the worst of the worst."

Douglas apologized to the victim's family members but said he planned to appeal the jury's decision.

Defense lawyers demanded a minimum sentence of 131 years for the accused.
