Solar Eclipse: Road accidents increase during total solar eclipse, warning issued regarding 8th April

American scientists have revealed in their research that there is a sharp increase in road accidents a few hours before and a few hours after the total solar eclipse. Sudden changes in light are the main cause of accidents. This revelation has come at a time when a total solar eclipse is going to occur on April 8. It will be visible only in the US, Ireland, UK and Canada.

The medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine has published a study conducted by scientists at the University of Toronto. Data on traffic accidents from before and after the 2017 total solar eclipse were examined by researchers. Studies have shown that during the solar eclipse, there was a brief period of darkness. Although there were numerous traffic accidents both before and after the solar eclipse, none were caused by the darkness. About ten people were involved in auto accidents every hour following the solar eclipse, compared to approximately eight people involved in auto accidents every hour before this.

Dr. Donald Riedelmeier, professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and co-author of the research, says that generally, more accidents occur in the hours after a solar eclipse. After the 2017 solar eclipse in America, one road accident occurred every 25 minutes. One reason for the accidents was that people were gathering at various places to watch the solar eclipse. Due to this, there were traffic jams at many places.

Researchers warned that there may be an increase in road accidents in countries including America where a total solar eclipse will be visible on April 8. During the total solar eclipse, darkness will last only for two and a half to four and a half minutes, but before and after this, caution is necessary on the roads. People were appealed to watch the solar eclipse while standing in safe places and not to drive cars during this period.
