Second day of MSRTC employees' strike on salary hike, CM Shinde to hold important meeting
Maharashtra Strike: MSRTC spokesperson said that due to the strike called by the action committee of 11 trade unions, out of 251 bus depots, 63 were completely closed, 73 partially and the remaining 115 were fully operational.
The strike by Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees over salary hike and other demands continued unabated on Wednesday, causing inconvenience to lakhs of passengers. Dussehra is over, Ganesh festival is about to start in Maharashtra but the transport services were affected due to strike of MSRTC employees. Let us tell you that salary parity with the state government employees is demanded by employees. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has called a meeting at Sahyadri Guest House with the leaders of MSRTC in the evening to find a solution.
An MSRTC spokesperson said, "Due to the strike called by the action committee of 11 trade unions, out of 251 bus depots, 63 were completely closed, 73 partially and the remaining 115 were fully functional". This strike has caused a problem for the citizens across the state. Along with the routine services, the running of Ganesh Puja special buses has also been affected. The Ganesh Puja is slated to begin from September 7, which would go on for 10 days. An MSRTC official said a total of five thousand additional festival special buses, including 4,300 services booked by passengers, were to be operated from Mumbai, Thane and Palghar between September 3 and 7.
The MSRTC administration said that the Industrial Court has declared this strike illegal. Along with this, the court also ordered the employees to return to work. The corporation has also directed the officials to register FIR against those who prevent willing employees from returning to work.
