Relief from repeated road digging, PM Gatishakti will be used in district-level infra planning

At present, various departments like electricity, water communication dig the same road repeatedly for their work. But with the use of PM Gatishakti, this will not be needed. It is a platform equipped with a highly developed Geographic Information System (GIS). All the departments of the Central Government and the state are connected to it. Projects like road, port, and rail worth more than Rs 500 crore are evaluated on the PM Gatishakti platform.

Although the PM Gatishakti NMP was started three years ago, on October 13, it has now begun to be taken to the next phase. Under the initiative of DPIIT, PM Gatishakti will now be utilized in the districts. Regarding this, a PM Gatishakti DMP is being prepared.

For this, the advantage will be that the different departments of that district will not keep digging to renovate their facilities. Preparing an infrastructure project on the DMP portal together from all the departments will see no obstruction in construction; both time and cost will be reduced.

Presently, different departments such as electricity, water, and communication dig the same road time and again for their work. While preparing the infrastructure, because of a lack of coordination and geographical information among the departments, money is spent along with wastage of time and many times many projects get stuck.

DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia said on Saturday that shortly a pilot project is being started regarding the use of PM Gatishakti in one district of all the states. The agreement in this regard has been signed with the states for this work. This will bring a lot of change in the district and Nagar Panchayat.

PM Gatishakti is a very advanced GIS-equipped platform to which all the departments of the Central Government and the states are connected. Diverse infrastructure projects like road, port, rail worth more than Rs 500 crore are assessed on the PM Gatishakti platform.

In this portal, even before the physical investigation, the idea is present about how many forests, residential, and industrial areas fall in the barrier and what obstruction will come. The projects are prepared keeping those problems in mind.

Recently, the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway was evaluated under the NMP of PM Gatishakti and the advantage of it was that the distance of this expressway was reduced from 841 km to 787 km. As many as 208 infra projects worth Rs 15.39 lakh crore were evaluated on the Gatishakti portal in the last three years.

Bhatia said PM Gatishakti is also being used to collect data of land available in the states. To some extent, the private sector will also be allowed to use it for industrial development and ease of doing business. He also said that Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have signed an agreement with India for the use of PM Gatishakti in infrastructure development.
