Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the Paris Olympics men's javelin throw competition with an Olympic record of 92.97 meters. Nadeem finished the tournament with another brilliant throw of 91.79 meters in his last attempt. In this event, India's Neeraj Chopra made the second-best throw of his career with 89.45 meters and won the silver medal. With this, the chances of Pakistan ranking above India in the medal tally have increased significantly. This was the first individual gold medal in Pakistan's Olympic history. This single medal of Pakistan is enough to give it a place above India in the medal tally of the Paris Olympics.

Although India has some events left in the Paris Olympics, it is quite challenging to get a gold medal. India has so far won a total of 5 medals in the Paris Olympics, including 1 silver and 4 bronze. Only one medal has come from Pakistan, but it is a gold medal. When it comes to ranking in the Olympic medal tally, the color of the medal matters more than the number of medals. No matter how many silver and bronze medals a country has won, a gold medal is considered the highest in the medal tally. Therefore, Pakistan is ahead in the medal tally despite winning fewer medals than India.

If India is unable to win gold in its remaining events, then Pakistan will be above India in the Paris Olympics. This will be the first time in 32 years that Pakistan will be above India in the medal tally at the Olympics. Pakistan has been above India in the Olympic medal tally on a few occasions before this. Pakistan won 1 gold and a bronze medal in the Rome Olympics in 1960. India was able to bring only one silver medal then. In this Olympics, Pakistan was ranked 20 and India was ranked 32. Similarly, in the 1968 Mexico Olympics, Pakistan got one gold and one bronze medal. Compared to Pakistan's 29th position, India was ranked 42nd with just one bronze medal.

In the 1972 Munich Olympics, Pakistan won one silver medal and was ranked 33rd. However, India was able to get only one bronze and was ranked 43rd. After this, in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Pakistan won 1 gold medal and secured 25th position, but India could not even open its account. In the 1988 and 1992 Sion and Barcelona Olympics respectively, Pakistan also won 1 bronze medal each, but India could not win a single medal.
