On the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack, security collapsed again
2 people jumped into the Lok Sabha from the visitors' gallery, released yellow smoke; Pannu had threatened. Today, on the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament, there was chaos in the Lok Sabha when two youths suddenly jumped down from the visitors' gallery. At that time, BJP MP Khagen Murmu was presenting his views in the Lok Sabha. The youth jumped on the bench of the House and started moving forward. Meanwhile, he took out his shoe and sprayed something, due to which yellow smoke started spreading in the house.
There was chaos in the entire house. Meanwhile, some MPs surrounded and caught the youth. Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla told that I caught him first. Some people also beat up both the youths. After this he was handed over to the security personnel. Seeing all this, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 2 pm.
Earlier, on 13 December 2001, 5 terrorists had attacked the old Parliament building. In this, 9 people including 5 Delhi Police personnel were killed.
There were a total of 6 people, two inside the house and two outside.
Six people are said to be involved in the case. Of the two people who entered during the proceedings, one is Sagar Sharma (Lucknow) and the other is D Manoranjan (Mysuru). Both the MPs had come to the House on visitor pass. At the same time, a man and a woman released yellow smoke outside the house. Their names are Amol Shinde (Latur, Maharashtra) and Neelam (Hisar). No phone or bag was recovered from them. Both the people arrested from outside claim that they reached Parliament on their own and are not affiliated with any organization.
The name of the fifth person is said to be Lalit Jha, who lived in Gurugram. The name of the sixth person has not been revealed. Both of them are currently absconding. Police said that all 6 people had met online. No such evidence was found to suggest that he had any connection with any terrorist organization.
Neelam raised slogans outside the Parliament. Said, 'Dictatorship will not work. Save the Constitution. Give justice to Manipur. Torture against women will not continue. Long live Mother India. Jai Bhim, Jai Bharat.
Proceedings resumed after an hour
This incident happened at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. After this, the proceedings of the House started again at 2 pm. As soon as he arrived, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said – The incident that just happened is a matter of everyone's concern. Its investigation is ongoing. Delhi Police has also been ordered to investigate. Initial investigation revealed that it was ordinary smoke. Everyone will be informed about the results of the detailed investigation.
When DMK MP TR Baalu wanted to ask a question on this matter, the speaker said that both the people have been caught. The items found with them have been confiscated. The two people who were outside the House have also been arrested.
After this, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary said that Parliament was attacked in 2001. Today again there has been an attack on the same day. Does this prove that there has been a security lapse?
Pannu had threatened to attack Parliament
Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had threatened to attack the Parliament. Since then Delhi Police was on alert. Pannu, who lives in America, had released a video and said - We will shake the foundation of the Parliament on the anniversary of the attack on Parliament i.e. on or before December 13. Pannu had released a poster with Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
After Pannu's video surfaced, a Delhi Police officer had said - no one will be allowed to disturb law and order. When Parliament is in session, we remain on high alert so that no one can create any disturbance.
Khagen Murmu said- I thought someone was coming
Lok Sabha MP Khagen Murmu said, 'I was giving a speech. Then a sound came from the right side and I felt that someone was coming. The MPs and security guards from the front started shouting 'hold on, hold on'. He was holding something in his hand, from which smoke was coming out. The house was filled with smoke. The youth were going straight towards the speaker. They were raising slogans that dictatorship will not work. At that time Rajendra Aggarwal was sitting on the speaker's chair.
Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla caught one of the two youths who jumped from the gallery of the House. During this time his hands also turned yellow. Ojla told this to the media outside the Parliament.
Read, which MP said what?
- Karti Chidambaram (Congress)- Suddenly two people jumped into the Lok Sabha from the visitor gallery. Both are around 20 years old. These people were carrying canisters. Yellow colored gas was coming out from these canisters. One of the two people ran and reached in front of the speaker's chair. They were raising some slogans. There is a fear that this gas may be poisonous. After December 13, 2001, this is again a big case of lapse in the security of Parliament.
- Adhir Ranjan Choudhary (Congress) – Two people jumped from the gallery. He threw something, due to which gas was coming out. He was caught by the MPs and then thrown out by security officials. This security lapse has occurred when it is the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack.
- Sudeep Bandyopadhyay (TMC) – It was a scary experience. Suddenly two people jumped into the Parliament. No one knows what his motive was. He could have created an explosion, could have shot someone. We all immediately left the House, but it was a security lapse. How could they enter with a smoke emitting instrument?
- Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Arvind Sawant- Suddenly two people jumped from the gallery in the Lok Sabha. Then both of them started jumping over the bench. One took off his shoe. The MPs caught him. Then suddenly yellow colored gas started coming out. Perhaps gas was coming out of his shoes.
- Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali- There was chaos in the House after people jumped from the visitor gallery. After this both of them were caught by the security officials.
- Farooq Abdullah (National Conference) – This is a huge security breach. How did this happen, how did they come inside, how did they have all those things, with which they opened the canister etc. The Planetary Ministry should immediately pay attention to this. Everyone is in danger in this, especially the Prime Minister is in danger. This has to be taken seriously. This should not happen. There is a new Parliament, there is so much security, it is important to see this.
- Dimple Yadav (SP) – Whoever comes to Parliament, whether they are visitors or journalists, they do not keep tags…. Therefore I believe that the government should pay attention to this. I think this is a complete security lapse. Anything could happen inside the Lok Sabha.
- Shashi Tharoor (Congress)- The thing is that these people were clearly sponsored by a sitting MP of the ruling party. These people brought smoke guns inside the Parliament. This represents a serious lapse in security. They not only fired smoke guns but also raised slogans which some of us were unable to hear. It seems that the new building was not very well prepared in terms of security compared to the arrangements of the old building.
- Manoj Kumar Jha (RJD) – Call it an accident, not an incident. When the Parliament was attacked 22 years ago, the party and the opposition were one, it is the same even today, but today I see that no one can accept it and respond, it is not happening. This is a security lapse, it should be accepted. Do not take any extreme step that now no visitors will come or journalists will not enter. Make elaborate arrangements. Such an incident cannot make us bow down.
- TMC (Official Twitter Handle) – Our MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from Parliament. He was accused of allegedly playing with the security of the country. It was said that Mahua had shared his Parliament login-password with someone. Today BJP MP Pratap Simha allowed the attackers to enter Parliament on the visitor's pass. Shouldn't this MP be expelled?
Parliament attacked on this day in 2001
Winter session was going on in Parliament on 13 December 2001. The House was adjourned at 11:02 following the uproar over the Women's Reservation Bill. After this, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and opposition leader Sonia Gandhi had left the Parliament.
At around 11.30, the security guards of the Vice President were waiting for him to come out and then five terrorists in a white Ambassador entered the Parliament from Gate No. 12. At that time the security guards were unarmed.
Seeing all this, the security guard ran after that Ambassador car. Then the terrorists' car collided with the Vice President's car. Panicked, the terrorists started firing indiscriminately. The terrorists had AK-47 and hand grenades, while the security guards were unarmed.
Advani, Pramod Mahajan and many journalists were present in the Parliament.
As soon as the sound of bullets was heard, a battalion of CRPF also became active. At that time, many big leaders and journalists including the country's Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani, Pramod Mahajan were present in the Parliament. Everyone was asked to stay safe inside.
Meanwhile, a terrorist tried to enter the House from Gate No. 1, but the security forces killed him there. After this, the bomb attached to his body also exploded. The remaining 4 terrorists tried to enter the House from Gate No. 4, but 3 of them were killed there.
After this, the last remaining terrorist ran towards Gate No. 5, but he also fell victim to the bullets of the soldiers. The encounter between soldiers and terrorists started at 11:30 am and ended at 4 pm.
Terrorist Afzal Guru was hanged
Masterminds Afzal Guru, SAR Geelani, Afshan Guru and Shaukat Hussain were arrested on 15 December 2001, just two days after the Parliament attack. The Supreme Court later acquitted Geelani and Afshan, but upheld Afzal Guru's death sentence.
Shaukat Hussain's death sentence was also reduced and the verdict was given to 10 years imprisonment. On 9 February 2013, Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 am in Tihar Jail, Delhi.
