Three people were killed and 20 injured in a firing between two groups on Wednesday over cleaning of a disputed land in the city under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
While members of both the factions belong to the Naga community, they are residents of different villages. Both claim their rights over that land. Prohibitory orders were imposed in the city after the clash. Mobile internet services have been suspended. Weapons have been looted from various police stations in the state earlier too, but those areas were dominated either by the Meitei or Kuki community. The report quoted the police as saying that for the first time, a police station was attacked in the Naga-dominated area, and that the police station was located a few meters away from the Assam Rifles camp.
Two youths kidnapped by armed men in Kangpokpi district of Manipur were released on Thursday, seven days after abduction. The officer said both the youths-Oinam Thoithoi Singh and Thoithoiba Singh-were handed over to the Kangpokpi Superintendent of Police at Gamgiphai Naka around 5 am. Both reached Imphal under the protection of the state police and Assam Rifles. Both will be handed over to their families soon. Both had gone with another youth Johnson Singh on September 27. They lost their way. The army rescued Johnson and handed him over to the police, while the two youths remained in the custody of the armed men.
According to ANI, Manipur Police has recovered a huge amount of arms and ammunition in a search operation in sensitive areas of the state. Manipur Police posted on Instagram, 'Security forces seized four locally manufactured improvised mortars (Pumpi) in a search operation in sensitive areas. In another search operation, IEDs, grenades, petrol bombs, bore rifles, Pumpi ammunition, detonators were recovered from Tengnoupal district.'
