Israel-Gaza War: Security Council should support Biden's ceasefire proposal in Gaza, US ambassador sent draft resolution

Efforts for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza have intensified. On Monday, the US requested the United Nations Security Council to support President Joe Biden's proposal for a three-phase permanent ceasefire in Gaza. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield sent a draft resolution to 14 other members of the council to support the proposal.

Said, Biden's aim is to end the eight-month-long war in Gaza and release all hostages. This will allow relief material to be sent to the victims in Gaza. US President Joe Biden issued a settlement proposal on May 31 and appealed to Hamas to accept it without delay and unconditionally. Hamas had said that it would take it positively.

This proposal excludes Israel's acceptance or rejection of the proposal. The settlement proposal announced by Biden calls for a permanent ceasefire in exchange for Hamas releasing all hostages. Following this proposal, ultranationalist parties in Israel's government threatened to withdraw their support if Netanyahu accepted Biden's proposal.

At the same time, Netanyahu discussed the settlement proposal with the Parliament's Foreign and Defence Affairs Committee but did not elaborate. Meanwhile, Israel has announced the deaths of four more hostages in Hamas' custody. It is believed that Hamas now has 80 live hostages and the bodies of 43 dead.

The Hamas delegation reached the Egyptian capital Cairo on Tuesday to negotiate the US-backed agreement. Israel has agreed to release Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of hostages in the first phase. So far 36,550 Palestinians have died in the Gaza war that started on October 7 last year. While more than 1200 Israeli civilians were killed in the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7 last year.

Apart from this, Hamas had taken about 250 people hostage. - G-7 countries also supported Biden's proposal. The leaders of the G-7 countries appealed to accept Biden's comprehensive settlement proposal to end the eight-month-long Israel-Hamas war. The statement issued by the G-7 leaders said that they stand in support of Biden's Gaza settlement proposal. He said that we are also appealing to those countries that have influence over Hamas to put pressure on it and agree to the agreement.
