IPL 2023: Gill's storm, Surya-Rohit all fail, Gujarat beat Mumbai in the final for the second time in a row

The second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was played between five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) and defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). In this high-scoring match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by 62 runs with the help of a stormy century by their opener Shubman Gill.

With this win, Gujarat has reached the final of the IPL for the second time in a row. Where they will face four-time champion team Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat Titans have given Mumbai Indians a target of 234 runs. He scored 233 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. Shubman Gill scored the highest 129 runs for Gujarat. He hit seven fours and 10 sixes in his 60-ball innings. This was Gill's third century in four matches. He scored centuries against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last two matches of the league round.

Apart from Gill, Sai Sudarshan scored 43 off 31 balls. He retired. Captain Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 28 off 13 balls. He hit two fours and two sixes. Wriddhiman Saha scored 18 runs off 16 balls. Rashid Khan remained unbeaten after scoring five runs off two balls. Akash Madhwal and Piyush Chawla took one wicket each for Mumbai Indians.

In response, the Mumbai Indians team could not do anything special despite Suryakumar Yadav's stormy half-century and got piled up by scoring only 171 runs in 18.2 overs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 61 runs off 38 balls with the help of two sixes and 7 fours. Apart from Surya, Tilak Verma played a blistering inning of 43 off 14 balls.

Mohit Sharma once again bowled brilliantly for Gujarat Titans. Sharma took five wickets for just 10 runs in 2.2 overs. Apart from him, Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami also took two wickets each. That's where Joshua Little got a breakthrough.
