According to the report, the minister said that currently Rs 16 lakh crore is spent on import of petrol and diesel in India. He also said that if we can reduce this import, the money left will go to the poor. This is not the first time that Nitin Gadkari has advocated reducing the import of petrol and diesel in the country. In the past too, he has advocated sourcing less fossil fuels from abroad and developing green and clean alternative fuel solutions in India.

He said, "Until the import of oil and diesel is stopped in the country, terrorism will not end across the world. The goal of my life is to stop the import of petrol and diesel. I consider this as a new freedom for India."

He stressed, "At present Rs 16 lakh crore is being spent annually on the import of oil and diesel. If we reduce this import, the remaining money will go to the poor. That is why we have started alternative fuels like biofuels. "Reducing imports and increasing exports is the right path for patriotism and Swadeshi."

Talking about the Indian automobile industry, Gadkari said the size of the country's auto industry was Rs 7 lakh crore in 2014 and now it is worth Rs 12.5 lakh crore. He also said that the automobile industry provides employment to 4.5 crore people. The minister further said, this is the industry which pays maximum GST to the state governments and the Centre.

Claiming that the country's automobile industry will be number one in the world in the next five years, Gadkari said, "Maximum imports are taking place in the automobile industry. If we want to become a Vishwaguru (world leader) and a $5 trillion economy, So we have to become number one in exports." His comments come at a time when just three months ago, India moved from seventh position to third position in the automobile export sector, leaving behind giants like Japan.
