The lithium-ion battery of an e-bike was kept in an apartment of a 6-storey building in the Harlem area of New York City America and due to a spark in it, the apartment caught fire. The fire broke out on the third floor of the building and then spread to the entire building within a short time.

However, some were unable to flee before the fire broke out and spread. The 27-year-old Indian journalist Fazil Khan was one of them. Fazil was employed by Columbia University as a data reporter. At the moment, Fazil was employed in America. When the fire started, Fazil was inside the structure and was unable to get out. As a result, Fazil died from severe burns.
The New York office of the Indian Embassy offered its condolences for Fazil's passing. Additionally, he disclosed that he is getting ready to send Fazil's body to India and is in contact with his friends and family.
The fire department rescued 18 people from the fire in Bilidang. Of these, 12 people have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of 4 of the injured is said to be critical.
