The US Treasury Department said these companies played a key role in facilitating and financing the secret sale of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to aid Russia in the Ukraine war.
The US said that Sahara Thunder had been identified as the main lead company that was helping Iran and three Indian companies were supporting it. Those three companies include Jane Shipping, Port India Private Limited, and Sea Art Ship Management (OPC) Private Limited.
The Iranian military unit Sahara Thunder is dependent on an extensive shipping network that serves Iran's Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) by selling and shipping Iranian goods to the People's Republic of China (PRC), Russia, and other countries.
The Cook Islands-flagged ship CHEM, which is run and managed by Safe Seas Ship Management FZE in the United Arab Emirates, is the subject of a contract that Sahara Thunder has entered into with the Indian companies Jane Shipping and Port India Pvt Ltd.
Treasury said Sahara Thunder has used CHEM to make several shipments of commodities from 2022. Iran-based Arsang Safe Trading Company has provided ship management services in support of several Sahara Thunder-related shipments, including CHEM.
