Vijayakanth: Emerged as an alternative to DMK-AIADMK, instilled hope among the people

Narayanan Vijayraj Alagaraswamy, better known by his stage name Vijayakanth, is no more. There is a wave of mourning in South politics and film industry due to his demise. As he was not only an actor but also an Indian politician and the founder of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). Vijayakanth died in a Chennai hospital on Thursday. His age was about 71 years. He had emerged as an alternative to DMK-AIADMK among his fans and people. A different hope was created among the people and today he left everyone behind.
The party issued a statement saying that Vijayakanth was on ventilator support after getting infected with Corona. However, in the statement issued by the hospital, it has been said that he had pneumonia.

In view of Vijayakanth's health, his wife Premlata formally took over the reins of DMDK on December 14 and was declared general secretary at a party meeting here.
Madras Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology (MIOT) International reported that Vijayakanth was admitted for treatment of pneumonia. Since then he was on ventilator support. Despite much treatment, he died on the morning of 28 December.
Earlier, the party had said in a release that Corona virus infection has been confirmed in Vijaykant and he has been put on ventilator due to difficulty in breathing. It has been said in the hospital bulletin that he is suffering from pneumonia. Hospital sources say that the party issued the statement even before the report came.

1. In the public eye, Vijayakanth has been marked by his successful career in the film industry, where he acted in 154 films and subsequently entered politics.
2. He founded the DMDK and served as a member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing Virudhachalam and Rishivandiam constituencies.
3. Vijayakanth's political career was at its peak when he formed an alliance with AIADMK in the 2011 assembly elections. The faction led by Jayalalitha won the election and Vijayakanth, the DMDK founder, became the leader of the opposition.
4. After this, the war of words intensified between him and Jayalalitha. This political uproar created an earthquake in the state and Vijayakant started trying to break the dominance of Dravidian parties.
