Few people know that Vicky Kaushal started his career with the film 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Even though he was not seen on screen, he had an important role behind the scenes. He worked as an assistant director in the film.

Vicky Kaushal, who is promoting 'Bad Newz', has talked about 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. He said that the coal smuggling shown in the film was real. While capturing this scene, Vicky had a narrow escape from getting beaten up. He was surrounded by sand mafia people.

In a conversation with comedian Tanmay Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal said, "The coal smuggling shown in the film was real. We shot it. An incident happened when we went to capture a scene of illegal sand mining. I was stunned because this was the first time I realized that it happened so openly. You will not feel that smuggling is happening in real. You will feel that this is a properly run business, because there were not just two trucks standing there, but 500 trucks were standing there."

Vicky Kaushal said that he got badly trapped while capturing smuggling secretly. The actor said, "We were shooting them secretly and some people came. We were surrounded by 500 people. The camera attendant was an old man, whose age was more than 50. The man called the unit and told them that the camera would not come on time because we were stuck in some situation."

Vicky Kaushal further said, "Listening to him on the phone, a person present there thought that he was calling some influential person. The man slapped the cameraman, snatched the camera from him, and threatened us that he would break the camera. Both of us were about to be beaten up, but we somehow escaped."
