All construction workers will be linked to Aadhaar card and e-shram database. Unique ID cards will soon be issued to these laborers. Let us know the rules and benefits of its registration.
The government will issue unique ID cards to all building and construction workers across the country to ensure protection of the rights of migrant workers. This will be mandatory for all workers. It will be linked to the labor base. It will also be linked to the e-Shram database. An announcement regarding this can be made next week. In 'The Migration Conclave' organized in Delhi by the All India Employers Organization (AIOE) and industry body FICCI in collaboration with the International Labor Organization, Labor Secretary Aarti Ahuja said that with the help of the unique ID card, the workers will not only be able to avail the benefits of various schemes of the government. You will be able to get the benefit easily, but you will also be able to tighten the reins on the contractors.
The government keeps bringing schemes to benefit the poor, laborers and farmers, but many times their benefits do not reach the people. Special ID card will act as a weapon for them. Migrant laborers engaged in construction work will especially benefit from this. Ahuja said that the contractors hardly follow the laws made for the interests of the workers. Therefore, the government will bring them under the ambit of various schemes through unique ID cards. This will prevent workers from being exploited. After the card is made, the contractors will have to follow all the rules of the government.
Most of the laborers in infrastructure and building construction are hired on contract. They are given daily wage employment. They are thrown out when the need ends. No effort is made to bring them under the ambit of the social security scheme. Workers move from one state to another in search of work. They have to face many types of challenges. In case of an accident, he and his family do not get any special benefit.
