Sri Lanka, which is facing economic crisis, will get a new president! Marxist Dissanayake is ahead; Ranil Wickremesinghe is in third place
So far, Marxist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is leading in the Sri Lankan presidential election. President Ranil Wickremesinghe is in third place. However, Anura's party has only three MPs in the Parliament. Anura Kumara is known as a leader who gives passionate speeches. A total of 75 percent voting was recorded in the Sri Lankan election. Sajith Premadasa is in second place.

Marxist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has got a huge lead in the presidential election of Sri Lanka, which is facing an economic crisis. He can become the next President of Sri Lanka. According to the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, Dissanayake has won about 53 percent of the 10 lakh votes counted so far. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa is in second place with 22% votes and President Ranil Wickremesinghe is in third place. A total of 75 percent voting was recorded in the election.
This party of Anura Kumara Dissanayake is named Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna; its short form in Sinhalese is JVP. The JVP forms an alliance that goes by the name National People's Power, abbreviated in English as NPP. In the coalition, Anura Kumara happens to be the candidate. Strong state intervention in economic matters, low taxes, and more closed markets are some of the economic policies propagated by Anura Kumara's party. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, 55 years old, with passionate speeches, stamps him as one of the most lively leaders in Sri Lanka.
Anura Kumara's party JVP has only three seats in Parliament. But Dissanayake made his place in the hearts of the people with his promises of stringent anti-corruption measures and the implementation of policies in the interest of the poor. He presented himself as a change-making leader before the public. Anura promised in the election that if he came into power, then he would dissolve the Parliament within 45 days.
On the other hand, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry wrote on X, "After a long and difficult campaign, the election results are now clear. Although I campaigned heavily for President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the people of Sri Lanka have made their decision and I fully respect their mandate for Anura Kumara Dissanayake."
In the year 2022, Sri Lanka faced an unprecedented economic crisis due to a huge shortage of foreign exchange reserves. The situation had deteriorated so much that Sri Lanka was unable to pay for the import of essential commodities including fuel, medicine, and cooking gas.
People angry with inflation and the shortage of essential commodities occupied the President's office and residence. After this, the then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to flee and later resign. Sri Lanka has not yet recovered from this crisis.
