Sports Ministry suspended wrestling association
Bajrang said - I will take back Padmashree, Sakshi Malik will reconsider the decision of retirement. The new body of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), which has been surrounded by controversies for the last 11 months, was suspended by the Sports Ministry on Sunday 24 December. WFI elections were held 3 days ago on 21st December, in which Sanjay Singh, close to BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, became the new President.

After the victory of the new president, WFI had announced to hold the Junior National Championship tournament in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh from December 28. Gonda is the parliamentary constituency of BJP MP Brij Bhushan. Wrestlers had accused Brij Bhushan of sexual exploitation. This is believed to be the reason behind the Sports Ministry's action against the new WFI team.
Sakshi Malik's mother Krishna Malik has expressed happiness over this decision of the Sports Ministry. He said- My daughter will reconsider her decision to retire from wrestling. Apart from this, wrestler Bajrang Punia, who had placed Padma Shri on the footpath outside the Prime Minister's house, has also said that he will withdraw the honour.
Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement from wrestling in protest against the victory of Brij Bhushan's close friend. Wrestler Bajrang Punia had also returned the Padma Shri. The dumb wrestler had also announced to return the Padmashree.
Sanjay Singh was the joint secretary in the previous body of WFI when Brij Bhushan was the president. Sanjay Singh became the new president by defeating Commonwealth champion Anita Singh Sheoran in the elections. After Sanjay's victory, Brij Bhushan's son had said that our dominance was there earlier and will continue to be so.
Sanjay Singh said - I am surprised by the decision, I will ask the Sports Ministry about it.
Sanjay Singh expressed surprise at the action of the Sports Ministry. He said- Whatever decision has been taken by the Sports Ministry. I welcome it. But I am surprised by this decision. I will ask the Sports Ministry about this.
Sanjay Singh said- I have not insulted the wrestlers anywhere. I had organized a 3-day National Wrestling Championship at Nandani Nagar Sports Stadium in Gonda district, so that the year of under-15 and under-20 children is not wasted and they can participate in the wrestling championship.
At the same time, BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh told Dainik Bhaskar that he has no statement to give right now regarding this matter. I have not been given any information yet from the Sports Ministry. As soon as I talk to the Sports Ministry. You people will be given information. According to media reports, Brij Bhushan has reached the house of BJP President Nadda.
Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement from wrestling
Sakshi Malik had also raised questions regarding holding the tournament in Gonda. He said- I have given up wrestling but I am troubled since last night. What should those junior women wrestlers do who are calling me and telling me that the Junior Nationals are going to be held from 28th and that the new wrestling federation has decided to hold it in Nandani Nagar Gonda.
The wrestlers who were protesting against Brij Bhushan were unhappy with Sanjay Singh being elected president in the WFI elections. Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat held a press conference in Delhi on Thursday evening. During this, Sakshi Malik became emotional and announced to quit wrestling. She took off her shoes and placed them on the table and got up from there.
Bajrang Punia returned Padma Shri, kept the award outside PM's house
After Sanjay Singh became the president, wrestler Bajrang Punia wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through social media on December 22 and announced the return of the Padma Shri award. Bajrang Punia wrote that I am returning my Padma Shri award to the Prime Minister. This is just my letter to say.
In this letter, Bajrang Punia expressed his opposition to the victory of Sanjay Singh, close to Brij Bhushan, over the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Bajrang had gone to the Prime Minister's residence to return the award, but when he did not get permission to go inside, he kept the award there on the footpath.
After Bajrang, dumb wrestler also announced to return Padmashree award
On December 23, Virendra Singh (dumb wrestler) had also announced to return the Padmashree Award. Virendra Singh received the Padma Shri award in 2021.
