Prasad said that he and the maker wanted Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt to play the role of Kattappa. However, they could not do so because Sanjay was in jail at that time. Prasad had said in an interview, 'We had only Sanjay Dutt in mind for Kattappa, but it was difficult then because he was in jail. The next option was Satyaraj.
