Prasad said that he and the maker wanted Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt to play the role of Kattappa. However, they could not do so because Sanjay was in jail at that time. Prasad had said in an interview, 'We had only Sanjay Dutt in mind for Kattappa, but it was difficult then because he was in jail. The next option was Satyaraj.
A question was left at the ending of this movie for which Baahubali fans kept waiting for 2 years to know the answer. The question was- 'Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?' and after this 'Baahubali 2' came on screen. This movie earned around Rs 1788 crore worldwide.
