BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers Retreat: India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar addressed the conference of foreign ministers of BIMSTEC held in New Delhi on Thursday. During this, he said that for India, BIMSTEC represents Neighborhood First Act East Policy and Sagar Vision. Along with this, he said many other important things while explaining its importance.
Elaborating further, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar explained at length the strategic importance of India with the Bay of Bengal Initiative on Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation—BIMSTEC. He explained its place in the overall global political schema of the nation's policies such as Neighborhood First, Act East Policy, and Sagar Vision.
While addressing the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' Retreat in New Delhi on Thursday, S Jaishankar said, 'For India, BIMSTEC represents its 'Neighborhood First' approach, 'Act East Policy', and 'Sagar' vision. Each of these efforts would be made with special focus on the Bay of Bengal having collaborative potential.'
He added, "Our challenge is to change this for the better and do it fast. The retreat is to exchange views clearly and fruitfully. We all benefited from the last such effort in Bangkok.".
It has additional special importance now, for it serves as a preparation of strong outcomes for the summit to be held at the end of the year, said Mr. S Jaishankar. "We must have a clear message that we are all committed to infusing new energy, new resources, and a new commitment in cooperation among the countries of the Bay of Bengal," he added.
The BIMSTEC Charter has come into force from May 20 this year for a start," said Jaishankar on the recent developments taken ahead in BIMSTEC. "Global and regional developments have also made it imperative that we find more solutions among ourselves."
