During a program of Russia's Knowledge Society, the chief of the agency said that Russia has deployed Sarmat on combat duty. However, no information was given about when and where it was deployed. A White House National Security Council spokesperson said on Friday that he had no information about keeping Sarmat combat ready.

The Sarmat ICBM was first launched on 20 April 2022. It was tested just a few days after the start of the Ukraine War. This test was conducted in the Arkhangelsk province of Russia. The missile successfully hit its target in the Kamchatka Peninsula in the eastern part of Russia. These missiles were designed to replace Russia's aging ICBM missiles built in the 1980s.

Sarmat missile has been named Shaitan-II by analysts of western countries. The construction of this missile was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018. Liquid fuel is used in this missile. Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Sarmat missile would be deployed by the end of 2022. Putin had said that anyone would have to think twice before attacking Russia.
