India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar attended the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Quad countries in Tokyo. Apart from him, Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japan's Yoko Kamikawa, and America's Antony Blinken were also present at the meeting. These leaders said in their joint statement without naming China that they are concerned about what is happening in the South China Sea. After the meeting in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, the Foreign Ministers said in a joint statement that they are concerned about 'intimidation of others and other dangerous moves in the South China Sea'. The leaders also vowed to further strengthen maritime security in this area.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Jaishankar said, all four of us, democracies, market-based economies, are working together for a free and open Indo-Pacific, a rules-based order. Jaishankar further said, 'Only our cooperation can ensure that the Indo-Pacific region remains free, open, stable, secure and prosperous.' He also said that our meeting should give a clear message that the Quad will remain, do its work, and move forward.
All the ministers said in their joint statement without naming China, 'We are very concerned about the situation in the East and South China Seas and reiterate our strong opposition to unilateral steps that try to change the situation by force or pressure.'
On the other hand, on the meeting of the Quad countries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has said that the meetings of the Quad are increasing tension in the region. The statement said that the Quad should stop holding imaginary meetings.
