Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the partition of the country on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day and said that on this day he also reiterated his commitment to protect the bond of unity and brotherhood in the nation.
Prime Minister Modi had announced to celebrate August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in the year 2021. "On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we remember the countless people who were affected and suffered due to the horrors of Partition," Modi said in a post on 'X'.
He said it is also a day to pay tribute to their courage, which reflects the power of human resistance.
PM Modi said, "Many people affected by Partition started their lives afresh and achieved immense success. Today, we also reiterate our commitment to always protect the bonds of unity and brotherhood in our nation."
Many people were displaced and several lakh people lost their lives due to large-scale riots. India will celebrate its 78th Independence Day on Thursday. Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14.
