The Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda government of Nepal has fallen. On Friday, the Prachanda government could not get a vote of confidence in Parliament. In fact, the Nepal Communist Party-Unified Marxist Leninist has withdrawn its support from the Prachanda government.

KP Sharma Oli is likely to be the next Prime Minister of Nepal. The Oli-led CPN-UML announced that it would form a government with the Nepali Congress. The Nepali Congress commands 89 seats, the maximum number in Parliament. Oli withdrew support from the Prachanda-led government after signing a power-sharing agreement with the Nepali Congress last week.

The 69-year-old Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda mustered 63 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives. 194 votes were cast against the proposal. At least 138 votes are required to win a vote of confidence in Nepal. Prachanda took over as Prime Minister on 25 December 2022. After this, his government faced four votes of confidence.

Already, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has supported Oli as the next Prime Minister. The Nepali Congress has 89 seats in Parliament. At the same time, CPN-UML has 78 seats. If the seats of both parties are combined, then this figure reaches 167. However, 138 seats are required for a majority in the lower house.
