PM Modi said – Climate summit of 2028 should be held in India

The world is paying the price for the actions of some countries, rich countries should forget their selfishness and help. Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted rich countries at the COP28 Climate Summit. Without taking anyone's name, he said that the whole world is paying the price for the actions of a few countries centuries ago. Countries which are responsible for excess carbon emissions should selflessly transfer technology to developing and poor countries to combat climate change. He talked about hosting the Climate Summit of 2028 i.e. COP33 in India.

PM Modi said – Climate summit of 2028 should be held in India
Narendra Modi: Prime Minister of India

He said that India has presented an example to the world of balancing ecology and economy. Despite 17 percent population, our share in carbon emissions is only 4 percent. Our target is to reduce carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2030. India formed Global Biofuel Alliance. The Climate Finance Fund should be increased from million to trillion dollars.

The PM had reached Dubai on the night of 30 November to attend the Climate Summit. People of Indian origin welcomed PM Modi outside the hotel. People were waiting for the PM since late night.

PM Modi among world leaders in Dubai
PM Modi, who reached the COP28 meeting, met many world leaders. He met Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte. After reaching Dubai, PM met people of Indian origin and greeted them with folded hands. During this time a dance group also gave a performance. The PM stood for some time and watched the dance and praised the artists. Apart from this, Modi also met youth and women.

Foreign Ministry Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that PM Modi will preside over a program related to the Green Credit Program with UAE. After this, the Energy Transition Group will launch LeadIT 2.0 with Sweden. PM Modi will meet with world leaders and will also hold bilateral meetings with some leaders.

At the same time, there will also be discussion in the summit on climate finance i.e. providing financial assistance to deal with climate change. In fact, 200 countries had reached an agreement in the COP27 summit held in Egypt last year. In this, rich countries responsible for climate change were asked to create a fund to be given to poor and developing countries. This agreement has been accepted in Dubai and a Loss and Damage Fund has been created.

What is Loss and Damage Fund, under which rich countries will compensate developing countries?
The temperature of the earth is continuously increasing. Due to this, there are floods in some places and drought in some places. However, the consequences of climate change have not been the same for all countries. There was a dangerous flood in Pakistan in 2022. It affected 33 lakh people. Pakistan, which was suffering from financial crisis, had suffered a loss of 30 billion dollars. At the same time, the island country named Vantau has had to relocate 6 of its cities due to rising sea level.

Due to this, developing countries are continuously demanding funds so that they can save their people from the tragedies coming due to climate change. Developing countries like India and China believe that rich countries should suffer the consequences. Because the earth's temperature has increased due to their carbon emissions. From 1975 to 2021, only America has accounted for 25% of carbon emissions. Whereas India has emitted only 3.4 percent carbon. Due to this, now many countries including America, Britain and Germany will have to pay some rupees as annual compensation to the developing countries.

Agenda of the meeting- reducing carbon emissions
COP28 Climate Summit will continue till 12 December. In this, apart from PM Modi, 167 leaders from around the world including King Charles, Rishi Sunak, Kamal Harris will discuss the issue of climate change and its solutions. In the last few years, climate change has emerged as the biggest challenge for the entire world. The focus of this meeting is to curb fossil fuels and carbon emissions.

PM Modi becomes part of Climate Summit for the third time
PM Modi is participating in the Climate Change Summit for the third time. Earlier, PM Modi had participated in the COP26 conference held in Glasgow in 2021. Then he announced Panchamrit Policy and Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) to deal with climate change.

PM Modi also attended COP21 held in Paris in 2015. During this period, more than 190 countries had agreed to the Paris Agreement. Under this agreement, there was talk of limiting the rising global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Its purpose was to reduce global warming.

Now it will be decided in COP28 that which country will get how much compensation and on what basis. It will also be decided which countries will give compensation.

PM Modi's sixth UAE visit
This is Modi's sixth UAE visit after becoming PM. He came here in August 2015 in his first term. He also visited UAE in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, the UAE government honored Modi with the country's highest civilian honor 'Order of Zayed'. After this Modi went to Dubai in June 2022 and July 2023.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Britain's Queen Queen Elizabeth and Chinese President Xi Jinping have also been awarded this honour. About 33 lakh Indians live in UAE. This is 30% of the total population of the country and the number of Indians here is the highest compared to any other country. At the same time, UAE is the fourth largest oil supplier to India after Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

A look at India-UAE relations
UAE avoids speaking against India on Kashmir
UAE is one of the Arab countries which are close to Pakistan. Their friendship can also be gauged from the fact that UAE has helped Pakistan, which is struggling with financial crisis, with 1 billion US dollars to increase its reserves. This is not the first time, even before this UAE has helped Pakistan by giving loan.

However, despite having good relations with Pakistan, UAE avoids making any statement against India regarding Kashmir.

In 2019, when India abolished Article 370 that gave privileges to Kashmir, UAE had called it an internal issue of India, while Pakistan was expecting a strong reaction from the Arab countries on this action of India.

UAE is India's third largest trading partner
UAE is India's third largest trading partner. There is a trade of more than Rs 6 lakh crore between the two countries. In this, UAE has imported Rs 2 lakh crore from India.

India has a financial deficit with UAE. That means India imports more from UAE and exports less. India has imported Rs 4 lakh crore from UAE in the financial year 2022-23. India had also signed a trade pact with UAE.
