Peace agreement between militant organization ULFA and central government

The peace accord is the culmination of 12 years of unconditional talks between the Arabinda Rajkhowa-led ULFA faction and the government. With the peace agreement, 700 ULFA cadres have also surrendered.

ULFA has a history of conflict against the armed forces in the North East for many years. This peace agreement is expected to end the long-running insurgency in Assam.

Actually, 20 leaders of a faction of ULFA were in Delhi for the last one week. Officials of the Government of India and the Government of Assam were trying to persuade these leaders to sign the draft peace agreement.

The faction of ULFA that has signed the peace agreement is led by Anup Chetia. This group has not taken up arms since 2011.

• The members of ULFA have left the path of armed movement, the Government of India will make every possible effort to bring them into the mainstream.
• Assam government will provide employment opportunities for ULFA cadres.

After peace agreement with ULFA, Amit Shah said- This is a bright day for the future of Assam. Violence has been witnessed in Assam and North-East for many decades. After the arrival of Modi government at the Centre, we are trying to make the North-East violence free.

Home Minister Amit Shah said that in the last 5 years there have been 9 peace agreements in the Northeast. This includes border peace and peace agreements. AFSPA has been removed from 85% areas of Assam. The agreement signed today with ULFA will end violence in the state. This organization had been carrying out violence for several decades, due to which about 10 thousand people have died.
