'Nehru used to think Indians are lazy', PM Modi targets Congress over former PM's old statement
While replying to the motion of thanks in President Draupadi Murmu's address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted Congress. During this, he also accused the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while replying to the nearly 14-hour-long discussion on the President's address in Parliament, made a strong attack on the Congress. This was the last speech of the Prime Minister in the seventeenth Lok Sabha. Modi also claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will get more than 400 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections but the BJP will also definitely get 370 seats. He said that the people of the country have had to pay a huge price for the mistakes of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and the Congress and we will continue to work to correct it because for us 'nation first'.
Mocking the opposition for its poor performance in the Lok Sabha in the election year, PM Modi referred to statements by two former Congress prime ministers to point out 'lack of confidence'. Recalling former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's Independence Day speech in 1959, he said, "Nehru had said from the Red Fort that Indians are not in the habit of working hard. He said that we Indians are as hard-working as Europe, Japan, China, Russia and America. Don't work hard." PM Modi said, "Nehru thought that Indians were lazy. Nehru thought that Indians were lazy and less intelligent."
PM Modi also pointed out how former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had once said that Indians run away from difficulties and obstacles. Reading a quote by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day, he said, "Unfortunately, we have a habit of becoming careless when an auspicious work is about to be accomplished when a difficulty arises, then we become careless. Sometimes it feels like the entire country has failed. It feels like we have adopted a sense of defeat." Criticizing the Congress leadership for giving priority to everything for one family, PM Modi said that the grand old party never trusted the countrymen and its potential.
PM Modi said in his address that 10 years ago there was mention of scams in Parliament and today Congress is defending the action against the corrupt. Expressing anger over the glorification of the corrupt, the PM said that this glorification is a letter to their destruction. The agencies are working independently, they can do as many atrocities as they want. His fight against corruption will continue. Those who have looted the country will have to give it back.
