India's Neeraj Chopra has so far performed brilliantly in the javelin throw event of the World Athletics Championships 2023 held in Budapest, Hungary. Neeraj Chopra has made it to the final by throwing 88.77 meters. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan has also been successful in reaching the final and can give a tough challenge to Neeraj. A total of 12 players will participate in the final event to be held today. Neeraj Chopra has a golden chance to create history in the World Championship. If Neeraj is successful in capturing the gold medal, he will become the first Indian athlete to win gold in the World Championships. He won the silver medal in this tournament last year.
In the qualifying round of the World Championship, Neeraj Chopra achieved success in the very first attempt. He got the ticket for Paris Olympics 2024 along with entering the final of this tournament by throwing 88.77 meters javelin. The qualifying mark for the Paris Olympics was 85.50m and Neeraj's career-best throw was fourth.
It may be noted that Neeraj Chopra's best throw is 89.94 meters. He threw this throw in the Stockholm Diamond League in June 2022. Today Neeraj will be eyeing to cross the 90-meter mark and capture the gold. Apart from Neeraj, two other Indians, Mu DP and Kishore Jena, have also entered the finals of the Javelin event. Manu threw 81.31 meters while Kishore Jena threw 80.55 meters.
Indian star athlete Neeraj Chopra may face a tough challenge from many star players including Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem in the final today. Neeraj is the farthest javelin thrower in the competition so far, but Nadeem was not far away either. Nadeem had thrown the javelin 86.79 meters. Nadeem won gold by throwing javelin over 90 meters in the Commonwealth Games of Birmingham last year.
