Congratulating Payal Kapadia on his social media handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, 'India is proud of Payal Kapadia's historic achievement of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her work 'All We Imagine as Light'. The remarkable talent of the FTII alumnus is shining on the global stage. It gives a glimpse of the rich creativity of India'. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further writes, 'Payal, this prestigious honor received by you is not only a recognition of your extraordinary skills but it will also inspire the new generation of Indian filmmakers. The country is proud of you'. Payal's film 'All We Imagine as Light' has won the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. With this, Payal has become the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix Award.

The winner of the second most coveted prize at the festival, behind the Palme d'Or, is Payal Kapadia's film "All We Imagine as Light." His movie is the first from India to take home the prize in the previous thirty years. The first Indian woman director, Payal Kapadia, has had her film screened for the first time in the main competition. Viola Davis, an American actor, presented him with this honour.
