Mumbai's electric water taxi will promote green mobility, know its features
Adoption of new methods of public transport is being seen in various cities of India. Ultimately its goal is to create an urban mobility system that can compete with the mobility systems of the developed countries of the world.

Earlier this week, Mumbai witnessed a remarkable change in its transport landscape with the introduction of electric water taxis. These innovative watercraft are set to bridge the distance between the iconic Gateway of India in South Mumbai and Belapur in Navi Mumbai. Which provide a sustainable and efficient travel option for both residents and tourists. These water taxis are to be started from December this year.
Infinity Harbor Service, a leading private water taxi operator, has purchased four state-of-the-art electric water taxis at an initial investment cost of Rs 10 crore. Each of these 24-seater taxis costs Rs 2.5 crore. Infinity Harbor Service currently operates between Belapur and the famous Elephanta Caves as well as Mandwa Alibaug.
One of the most special features of these electric water taxis is their power efficiency. They can run continuously for up to four hours on a single charge. Which is in stark contrast to the 140 liters of diesel consumed per hour by their conventional counterparts. This not only promises substantial cost savings but also represents an important step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Mumbai's water transport system. Additionally, these electric water taxis can travel at speeds of up to 12 knots. And can complete the journey between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in one hour.
Changing scenario of urban transport in India
Due to concerns over deteriorating air quality and increasing pollution on a large scale, both the Center and states have started focusing public policy on new, eco-friendly and sustainable modes of transportation. Even if only in urban centres. However, vehicles and the smoke emitted from them are not the only cause of air pollution. But bigger incentives for EV vehicles can definitely play a significant role in reducing India's emissions.
The Mumbai Water Taxi is a big step towards that goal. But it is not the only one.
