ED raids are underway at 7 places related to Uddhav faction leader and MLA Ravindra Vaikar and his associates in connection with the construction of a hotel in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided the premises of Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Ravindra Vaikar and some entities linked to him in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the construction of a luxury hotel in Jogeshwari area of the city.
According to official sources, the agency is conducting raids at about seven places in Mumbai. Sources said that these also included the premises of Vaikar and some of his associates and others. Vaikar (64) is a Shiv Sena MLA from the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction and represents Jogeshwari East constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly.
The ED's money laundering case stems from an FIR by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police, which has accused the MLA of illegally obtaining approval for the construction of a five-star hotel on a plot reserved for a garden. It is alleged that BMC suffered huge losses due to this deal.
