McDonald's is a global company, its franchisees are usually locally owned and operate independently. According to Al Jazeera, its CEO, Chris Kempczinski, had previously said that the company had faced a "meaningful commercial impact" on business in several markets in the Middle East and some places outside the region due to the Israel–Hamas conflict.

McDonald's announced that it would purchase its 30-year-old Israeli franchise from Alonyal Ltd. and regain ownership of 225 outlets employing more than 5,000 individuals. Aljazeera said this in one of its reports. The American fast-food chain faced boycotts and protests following Alonyal's announcement of providing free meals to Israeli forces following the October 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas. It is believed that this decision has been taken for this reason.

On Friday, the Supreme Court transferred all of the petitions against the imposition of a 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on e-gaming companies to itself after accepting the Center's petition regarding the authentic decision on the petitions filed in nine high courts. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice J. B. A bench of Justice Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra allowed the Centre's plea and asked it to file its reply by April 20 on the pending petitions of online gaming companies.

The bench has also appointed a nodal advocate, who will collect records in the case. Now these petitions will be heard in the first week of May. Several online gaming companies like Dream 11, Games 24x7 and Head Digital Works had moved the apex court challenging the imposition of GST. Earlier, the Supreme Court had upheld the decision of the Karnataka High Court to cancel the GST information notice of Rs 21 thousand crore issued to an online gaming company.
