Sensex Opening Bell: The BSE and NSE stock exchanges have chosen to maintain market operations today in spite of the weekend holiday, as part of their plan to evaluate the system's readiness in the event of an unanticipated disaster.

During a special trading session on Saturday, Indian headline indices started the day higher than they had on Friday, maintaining the market's Friday momentum. The 30-share sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), known as the Sensex, opened the morning's trading at 73,869.82, up 124.47 points. The Nifty was also up roughly 53.25 points or 0.24 per cent.

Today, stock exchanges BSE and NSE have decided to keep the markets open despite the weekend holiday as part of their strategy to assess the preparedness of the system in case of any unexpected tragedy.

The strength of bulls was visible in Nifty during Saturday's special trading session. In early trade, 45 stocks were seen trading on the green mark, five stocks were seen trading on the red mark. Among the top gainers on Nifty were shares of Hero MotoCorp, Divi's Laboratories, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Steel and Wipro. While the top losers were shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank, NTPC, Reliance Industries, BPCL and Axis Bank.
