The rupee recovered from its all-time low to rise 9 paise to 82.99 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday as crude oil prices retreated from higher levels. However, forex traders said a soft trend in domestic equities and the strength of the American currency in the overseas market weighed on investor sentiment.

Today at the Interbank Forex, the rupee opened at 83.10, then touched a high of 82.99 against the US currency, registering a gain of 9 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee depreciated 26 paise to close at an all-time low of 83.08 against the US dollar. Tuesday and Wednesday were closed on account of Independence Day and Parsi New Year.

Dollar Index, which is a basket of six currencies. According to the dollar index, the dollar rose 0.12 percent to 103.55. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.12 percent to USD 83.55 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 722.76 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.

Today the stock market opened with a decline. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 65,418.71, down 120.71 points or 0.18 percent. Whereas, the broader NSE Nifty fell 43.55 points, or 0.22 percent, to 19,421.45.
