Flights Ticket: People going home on Diwali have fun, airfares have become cheaper by 25 percent
This year, air fares on Diwali have come down significantly compared to last year. Aviation companies have expanded their capacity significantly. Also, the recent reduction in oil prices has also helped the airline to make air fares cheaper. The highest drop in air fares has come in the Bangalore-Kolkata flight, which has come down from Rs 10195 last year to Rs 6319.

Going home by plane this Diwali is going to be cheaper than last year, with average air fare falling by 20-25 percent in many domestic routes compared to last year. Indeed, increased capacity and the recent drop in oil prices are considered to be one of the factors in the fall in air ticket prices.
An analysis by travel portal ixigo has indicated that average air fare on domestic routes has fallen by 20-25 percent. The prices are average one-way fares based on 30-day advance purchase date, which in 2023 fell from November 10-16 and this year from October 28-November 3. This is the week around Diwali.
Similarly, Bengaluru-Kolkata flight witnessed the biggest plunge in average airfare this year after falling to Rs 6,319 from Rs 10,195 last year. The ticket price for Chennai-Kolkata has declined by 36 per cent from Rs 8,725 to Rs 5,604. Average airfare for Mumbai-Delhi flight has theoretically fallen by 34 per cent from Rs 8,788 to Rs 5,762.
Similarly, ticket prices on the Delhi-Udaipur route have come down by 34 per cent from Rs 11,296 to Rs 7,469. This decline is 32 percent on Delhi-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Delhi and Delhi-Srinagar routes. Last year, air fares had jumped around Diwali due to limited capacity, which was mainly due to the suspension of Go First Airlines.
The second major reason for the fare cut is a fall in oil prices. Oil prices have fallen this year by 15 percent; passengers will therefore have cheaper options during the festive season. Currently, the oil prices are inclined upwards due to growing geopolitical tensions, which has resulted in a hike in air fares by as high as 34 percent on some routes.
While the ticket price has gone up from Rs 6,533 to Rs 8,758 on the Ahmedabad-Delhi route, it has gone up by 33 percent for the Mumbai-Dehradun route-from Rs 11,710 to Rs 15,527.
