On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs thanked China for congratulating India's PM-designate Narendra Modi on his election victory. Also said that he will continue to make efforts to normalize bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity.

India's Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal was responding to the congratulatory message posted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on 'X'. India has been consistently saying that peace on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is important to normalize overall relations. On June 5, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry had said congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP, and NDA on the victory in the elections. We hope for a healthy and stable China-India relationship. The leaders of four out of five P-5 countries have congratulated Modi on winning the third term.

However, Chinese President Xi Jinping has yet to issue a congratulatory greeting. The P5 are the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council: Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and France. There has been a standoff between the Indian and Chinese armies since May 2020.

Modi congratulated Yemen Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and Saint Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Terence Drew for their congratulations on his Lok Sabha election victory. Drew said in the ex-post, "Honourable Narendra Modi, congratulations on your re-election." I wish you continued success in steering the country towards prosperity and grandeur.

At the same time, the Prime Minister of Yemen said I heartily congratulate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his victory in the elections and new confidence in his leadership. I look forward to working together to explore new avenues for the deep-rooted historical ties between our two friendly nations.
