External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the people at the 'India-UN for Global South: Delivering for Development' event in New York. During this, he started by discussing India's determination to maintain the G20 summit and its core objectives.

'At the G20 summit, many people were still surprised that we actually brought everyone together,' Jaishankar said at the event on September 23. I don't think he fully expected this. There must be a group of people who are still wondering how this was possible? On the other hand, I think some of the people here with me, have appreciated that we have got the G20 to focus on the Global South. The task for which the G20 was created was global growth and development.

Jaishankar further said that we asked him to refocus on this and pay special attention to the Global South. We already did this partly by organizing the Global South Summit. Regarding everyone's presence at the G20 summit, Jaishankar said, 'Your presence means a lot to us. It also expresses the sentiments you feel for India and underlines the importance of South-South cooperation.

Jaishankar said, 'We met in New Delhi just a few weeks after the G20 summit, which was held on the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'. He said that it was a challenging summit. It was indeed a challenging presidency. This was challenging because we were facing very intense East-West polarization as well as a very deep North-South divide.

As Chair of the G20, we were very determined to ensure that this organization on which the world had placed so many hopes was actually able to get back to its core agenda.'

Jaishankar reiterated that India's G20 presidency is primarily aimed at promoting global growth and development. He highlighted the beginning of this Presidency with the Global South Summit, which brought together 125 countries from the South, with active participation from many attendees.
