Gulveer Singh did a great job in Portland, broke the record in the 5,000-meter race
Athletics: Now Gulveer holds the national record for both 10000 meters and 5000-meter races. He won the bronze medal in the 10000-meter event at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year with a time of 28.17.21 seconds. India's Karthik Kumar (1341.07) finished 17th while Sable (1320.37) could not complete the race. In the men's 5000-meter high-performance event, Abhishek Pal finished third with a time of 1341.57 seconds.
Asian Games bronze medalist athlete Gulveer Singh broke the national record of the men's 5,000-meter event by finishing second in the Portland Track Festival High-Performance competition here.
Participating in the Pal Banta Memorial Race, 26-year-old athlete Gulveer from western Uttar Pradesh clocked 13:18.92 seconds, which was better than the national record of 13:19.30 seconds set by Avinash Sable in Los Angeles last year.
Gulveer now holds the national record for both 10,000 metres and 5,000 metres. Last year, he ran 28.17.21 seconds to win the bronze medal in the 10,000-meter event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Kartik Kumar of India (13:41.07) finished 17th, while Sable (13:20.37) did not finish the race. Abhishek Pal finished third in the men's 5,000-meter high-performance event, clocking 13:41.57 seconds.
The Paris Olympics begin next month. Everyone is focused on these games. India performed admirably at the past Olympics, winning seven medals. This time around, Team India is likely to perform better in Paris and win more than seven medals.
