Government's new initiative, financial assistance scheme launched for 2.56 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks
Gramin Dak Sevaks: Union Minister Vaishnav said that Gramin Dak Sevaks are the backbone of the postal system in rural areas. More than 2.5 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks provide financial services, parcel delivery and other services in remote parts of our country.
On Friday, Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnav made a significant decision about the more than 2.56 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) employed by the Postal Service. They have decided to put in place a programme of financial aid to enhance GDS's service offerings.
Postal workers with 12, 24, and 36 years of service will receive assistance under this scheme for Rs 4,320, Rs 5,520, and Rs 7,200 annually, respectively. This sum is not to be confused with the lump sum compensation known as "Time-Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA)."
Union Minister Vaishnav said in the program, 'Gramin Dak Sevak is the backbone of the postal system in rural areas. More than 2.5 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks provide financial services, parcel delivery and other services in remote parts of our country. This will prove to be an important step in improving the service conditions of GDS. At the same time, more than 2.56 lakh GDS will benefit from an important step to improve the service conditions of rural postal services.
He said that it is the goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform the postal network into a service delivery network. He said that the government has digitalized all the post offices in the country. In which new services like Passport Service, Aadhaar Service and Postal Export Center have been started. He informed that more than 1.25 crore citizens have got their passports made through post offices and more than 10 crore citizens have availed Aadhaar services through post offices.
The Union Minister said that when the postal network is decreasing in many countries, the Indian government has decided to open 10,480 new post offices. It facilitates the provision of banking services within five kilometres of all villages. GDS also provides Aadhaar services, and DBT payments in rural areas.
He said Rs 22,000 crore has been paid to about four crore DBT beneficiaries through various post offices in the country. Most of these payments are made by GDS. Central Vaishnav said that Gramin Dak Sevaks have opened more than 1.7 crore Sukanya Samriddhi accounts in rural areas.
