When it rains in cricket matches, the tension of the fans increases as to what will happen now. This used to happen earlier but then to avoid this, the Duckworth-Lewis rule was introduced to find out the results of the matches. One of the makers of this rule died at the age of 84. This news has come in the midst of the T20 World Cup.

Frank Duckworth, the 84-year-old English statistician and one of the brains behind the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, died. Frank Duckworth and fellow statistician Tony Lewis prepared the Duckworth-Lewis method for the result of matches affected by rain.

It was first introduced to international cricket in 1997, and in 2001, the ICC officially accepted it as a standard system of giving revised targets in those matches where the number of overs is reduced.

This technique was later called Duckworth-Lewis-Stern after Duckworth and Lewis retired, along with some changes made by the Australian statistician Steven Stern. Duckworth and Lewis were given the 'Member of the Order of the British Empire' (MBE) in June 2010. It is a rule that has declared the fate of many matches and has given teams a chance to rejoice and be sad. However, this rule is still a mystery for the spectators. How the calculations are done under this rule and how the target is set for which team the winner is declared has been very difficult for cricket fans and many players.
